In line with our Catholic ethos, we passionately believe that individuals flourish and achieve in an environment in which they feel safe and valued. We view all pupils as individuals and employ an extensive range of pastoral systems to address their specific needs. All staff at Cardinal Allen have a pastoral responsibility. A fundamental aspect of the success of this system is the strong, mutual working relationships the school forges with parents and we openly invite parents to contact the relevant key staff with any issues of concern.
Our pastoral team consists of:
- Form tutor – Each student is placed in a form and assigned a form tutor; they will stay in this form for the full 5 years they are with us. Students see their form tutor every single day in the morning.
- Pastoral Assistant– Each year group has a pastoral assistant; students can speak to their pastoral assistant if they are experiencing any pastoral need. We have a pastoral hub where there is one pastoral assistant all day for students to go to, if needed.
- Heads of School – Lower (Year 7) Mrs J Duffy, Middle (Years 8 & 9) Mrs C Bateman, Upper (Years 10 & 11) Mrs A Isherwood
- Assistant Headteacher Pastoral care – Mrs L Garside – Oversees the pastoral care of our students
If a student requires additional pastoral or mental health support, we have our own school counsellor Mrs Hogan who offers appointments weekly. We have a school nurse who holds monthly clinics at our school and the SHINE mental health support team who offer low intensity therapy. We also complete referrals to outside agencies such as Barnardo’s, Fleetwood town champions, Childrens champion, Fylde coast women’s aid, youth therapy, we are with you, Winston’s wish and Nest.
In addition to the Pastoral System, aspects of safety and well-being are covered in the curriculum, including bullying, online safety and human relationships. Although the school is progressive and visionary we are well aware of the detrimental effects of new technologies. Clear guidance and direction is frequently presented to pupils on the use, impact and dangers of new technologies and social media. This further enriches the well-being and safety of all our pupils. The overall effect of our celebrated pastoral care is to create an environment where pupil behaviour is widely acknowledged and where they are free to flourish whilst feeling safe and valued.
