Pupils study six topics throughout the year allowing them to explore the important skills of script work, improvisation, dance technology (specifically use of IPads) and performance work. The half termly projects are assessed after six weeks. Year 7 students currently experience the following areas: Introduction to Drama, Stagecraft, Using a Script, Film Trailers, Devising/Improvisation and Dance.
Building on the basic dramatic techniques acquired in Year 7, students in their second year can look forward to putting them into practice in more advanced formats and working in varying group sizes; one topic encouraging children to perform in a half class ensemble piece. Topics currently on offer to this year group are, Script (The Exam), Pantomime and Theatre In Education.
The focus shifts slightly this year when groups work on a whole class performance directed by their teacher. 'Departure' is significantly taught at the end of the year as we say goodbye to children moving from lower to upper school and for some, these will be their final Drama lessons. This topic allows classes to experience working 'on set' taking advantage of the Studio sound and lighting system. Other topics studied include Shakespeare and Script.
